NSC win Premier League

The National Sports Council (NSC) defeated Genesis 3-1 to win their third consecutive Barbados Football Association Women’s Premier League title at Emmerton yesterday afternoon.

Playing in the night’s featured match at 7 p.m,  NSC opened the scoring through striker Tianna Hackett in the 23 minute. After receiving a through ball, Hackett ran past two Genesis defenders and slotted the ball to the left of Genesis’ goalkeeper Aronda Morris.

Two minutes later after picking up a loose ball on the left flank, Hackett easily slotted past a helpless Morris to make it 2-0.

Genesis did manage to get onto the score sheet after a mix up in front of the NSC’s goal resulted in the ball ricocheting off one of the four players involved and into the back of the net

The second half saw a determined Genesis side trying in vain to score an equalizer in an effort deny NSC the title.

However that was not meant to be, as Jalisa Callender’s 92nd minute strike sealed the deal for NSC. After controlling a pass which was sent in from the far right, Callender dribbled her way past a Genesis defender and Morris to score.

Earlier Eden Stars Unity and Mavericks played to a 1-1 draw. Mavericks opened the scoring through Aaliyah Williams in the seventh minute of play, before Eden Stars equalized in the 42nd minute, thanks to striker Rihanna Cyrus who ended the season with 11 goals.
