Evangelist Holmes Williams hospitalised
One of Barbados and the Caribbean’s most prominent evangelists is currently warded in the intensive care unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
Founder and retired senior pastor of the People’s Cathedral Holmes Williams is being treated for chikungunya and dengue fever and has had to be placed on oxygen.
Well placed sources also revealed that the well known evangelist. whose Christ Is The Answer radio broadcast is a household name across the region, has been heavily sedated with drugs and was not seeing any visitors. Head of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (PAWI) Bishop Gerry Seale confirmed that Reverend Williams was not well, but declined to provide details on his condition. However, Bishop Seale told Barbados TODAY that all member churches of PAWI – including People’s Cathedral – had been asked to pray for his recovery.
“It is now in God’s hands,” he said. Since Williams started the church in 1960 in his living room, The People’s Cathedral has now grown to approximately 4,500 baptized members. It is the largest evangelical church in the Eastern Caribbean and holds three services on Sunday to accommodate the growing congregation. Born in Barbados, Williams is a gifted evangelist and has conducted many crusades in most of the English and French Caribbean islands, as well as North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, seeing thousands come to Christ.
