Mark “Venom” Griffith shocked thousands of spectators at the Villages at Coverley last night, defeating overwhelming favourite Antoine “Lil Man” Daniel to claim top honours the Massy United Insurance Clash of the Titans road tennis competition.

Griffith, the defending champion, won 22-20, 21-12, 16-21, 21-15, to walk away with the first prize of $12,000.
While the 30-year-old was at his defensive best, the same could not be said of the aggressive Daniel – who took home $6,000 – as he regularly found the top of the net and the outside of the court on his way to committing countless unforced errors.
A hobbling Kim Holder proved she was still the best female player on the island, as she saved three match points before eventually defeating Rachel Smith 17-21, 25-23, 21-17 in a thrilling encounter.
Dario Hinds battled back from a set down to register a hard-fought and exciting 12-21, 21-17, 21-19 win over Darius “Barracus” Gaskin.
