AG Holder talks security with Stuart
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart talked security with the United States Attorney General Eric Holder Jr today.
During wide-ranging discussions, which focused on general security issues affecting Barbados and the region, Stuart and Holder exchanged views on the drug trade, the issue of small arms and light weapons, human trafficking, and civil forfeiture of assets which are the proceeds of crime.
Stuart said that Barbados attached great importance to its relationship with the United States and was committed to the deepening and strengthening of that relationship.
In response, Holder affirmed the importance of the Caribbean to the United States and noted that the partnership they had forged had worked quite well, to the advantage of both the United States and the region.
Both agreed that the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative had been mutually beneficial.
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite, United States Ambassador to Barbados Dr Larry Palmer, and senior government officials from both countries were present for the meeting at Parliament which lasted just about half an hour.
