Crippling strike by air traffic controllers
The Director of Civil Aviation Kingsley Nelson is at this hour meeting with striking air traffic controllers, who walked off the job this morning complaining about poor working conditions.
The action, which took the authorities by surprise, has affected several flights in and out of the Grantley Adams International Airport. However, Corporate Communications Specialist Keith Goddard has confirmed that the airport remains open.
He also reported that one LIAT fight and one Caribbean Airlines flight were able to successfully depart the airport, as managers stepped in and manned the control tower.
However, several other flights were delayed and up to 10 a.m. the airport’s check in counters were clear. The departures board told the story of the unfolding delays.
