Super League tourney at knockout stage

Street Vbyz defeated Belleplaine Shottas 2-0 at the Mahaica grounds in Speightstown over the weekend in the Super League Soccer Tournament to top Zone “A” with nine points.

The Christ Church-based team scored in the 24th minute of the game thanks to Barbados national Under-20 forward Shaquille Boyce. The second goal came compliments of an own goal from the Shottas team in the second half of the game.

Eastside Ballers of St Joseph had to fight hard for their 2-1 win over St Lucy YMFC. The winners’ goals came from former national Under-20 players Michael Young who netted in the 20th minute of the game and in the second half Raymond Kellman made it 2-0. However, St Lucy YMFC played with a never-say-die attitude and were rewarded when Akeem Thomas pulled a goal back late in the second half.

Over-D-Hill, a team of very youthful players from the Sion Hill and Orange Hill districts, put up a great showing against Norman 2000. The young lads were able to dominate Norman 2000, a strong team comprised of mostly senior national players, and emerged with a 2-0 victory.

Teams qualifying so far to the 16 teams’ knockout stage are RBC Capital Markets Barbados Soccer Academy, Vegas, St Peter Bay Road View, Street Vybz, Gaza Football Club, Speightstown, Vitality Urban Vbyz, Norman 2000, St Joseph East Side Ballers, Over-D- Hill and Boscobelle Gullyside.

The final matches in the round robin competition will be held on Wednesday at Speightstown with De Team versus Six Men’s at 6 p.m. and Gullyside taking on Elite Black Ops at 7:30 p.m.
