Business leaders to fight any new taxes

The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) has announced its intention to make a presentation to Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler on the International Monetary Fund’s tax reform recommendations for this country.

President Tracey Shuffler told her monthly business luncheon at Hilton Barbados Resort this afternoon that while it fully supported greater efficiency in tax collection, it would “steadfastly” oppose any further tax burden.

“We intend to make a formal submission to the Minister of Finance . . . . At the same time, we will submit our suggestions and proposals for the upcoming Budget,” she said.

The BCCI has said that the business community cannot survive a higher level of taxation as this will have a punishing impact on the ability of businesses to grow and offer much needed employment.
