Israel could be coming
He is a multiple Grammy, Dove and Stellar Award-winning American Christian music artist, worship leader and singer-songwriter, reputed for such addictive praise and worship songs as I Am A Friend Of God, Jesus At the Centre and Here I Am To Worship. We are talking about Israel Houghton, who is usually credited as Israel & New Breed.
Barbadians are likely to see him “live” and in living colour early next year. So, plans are in train to bring him here to perform in April.
The organizer is currently seeking to obtain much needed sponsorship that would make it possible for this dynamic, vocally talented artiste to “turn the place upside down”. Because of Israel’s artistic abilities, impact, international status and influence in the music industry, the producer of the event is certain it would be a win-win situation for him, the sponsors and the public.
Israel is mostly known for his cross-cultural style of Christian music that fuses elements from gospel, jazz and rock, and he is currently signed to Integrity Music label. He has served as worship leader for the Promise Keeper and Champions For Christ events, as well as the Hillsong Conference 2006-2010, and Hillsong Conference Europe 2008-2010.
Israel currently serves as a worship leader (alongside Cindy Cruse-Ratcliff, Steve Crawford and Da’dra Crawford-Greathouse) at Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, United States, pastored by Joel Osteen.
Israel & New Breed performed at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, taking part in a segment saluting gospel music, alongside the likes of Aretha Franklin and BeeBee Winans. He also sang with Michael W. Smith on his 2008 album A New Hallelujah, recorded at Lakewood Church in Houston.
As a worship leader, singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Israel is also known for his work as a master collaborator, drawing out the best performances from all those around him. Having written or co-written 11 CCLI Top 500 favourites, creating a canon of songs that have become standards in houses of faith around the globe, Israel’s Love God. Love People follows his acclaimed Grammy Award-winning and Billboard Top 200 hit The Power Of One, and promises to be an inspiration to all who listen.
Love God. Love People blends the musical genres of worship, rock, funk and power pop, and was recorded and engineered by Danny Duncan (India.Arie, Hillsong Live, Natalie Grant, CeCe Winans) at Abbey Road Studios in London. So Barbadians should prepare to eat from the musical table of such a big gospel artist as Israel, come April next year –– all things being equal.
Meanwhile, one of our own fast emerging gospel artists is launching his debut album tomorrow at the Sea Rocks Dome, Maxwell Coast Road, Christ Church, beginning at 7 p.m. Karlos Cobham will be officially releasing his album L.M.I.Y. (Let Me Introduce You).
The concert will also get a major musical boost with guest performances from Grammy and Dove nominee Canton Jones, who is a gospel, hip hop and Christian artist, songwriter, producer and vocal arranger.
Cobham’s new record has ten tracks, which include, of course, the title song Lemme Introduce You, along with It’s Amazing, OK, Believe, Transcend and Hello, Future (featuring Mariz B). This is album in the hip hop/gospel genre.
And, just a reminder of the concert of local recording artiste Neesha Woodz and friends –– the Blessing After Blessing edition –– coming to the Church Of The Nazarene in Collymore Rock, St Michael, on November 1.
Multiple Marlin Award-winning Trinidadian gospel artist Positive will be the headline guest act. Check your popular box offices for tickets at $20.
Blessings! I am out of here.
