No David Thompson tourney this year

Domestic footballers will have to make do without two major opportunities to earn some extra cash this year-end.

Following the decision of private organisers to pull the plug on this year’s Lime Pelican Football Challenge, Government has now cancelled the 2014 David Thompson Memorial Constituency Council Football Classic.

The decision not to hold the competition this year was made known in a terse media release from the Government Information Service today.

It also indicated that the Ministry would “shortly be activating the planning for a possible 2015 football tournament”.

While the Lime Pelican Football Challenge carried a first prize of $100,000, the David Thompson Memorial Competition offered $75,000 to be divided among the top four teams.
