Man fined after drugs found in package from US

A 35-year-old man was today fined $50,000 after pleading guilty to having 14.5 pounds of cannabis which police found in a package sent to him from the United States.

Kerry Omar McArthur Williams, 35, of Providence, Christ Church must pay $25,000 in nine months to avoid two years in prison on the possession charge; and $25,000 in six months or two years behind bars on the trafficking offence.

He was reprimanded and discharged for possession with intent to supply.

On Wednesday, a box purporting to contain foodstuff was received from the US via a courier company, and was collected by Williams.

Members of the Drug Squad intercepted Williams and when the box was searched, 31 packages containing compressed cannabis were found among the items.
