Garrison win Flow tourney

Garrison Ballers are the champions of the 2014 Flow Basketball Youth Summer Tournament after defeating Bayland 65-56 in the final played at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex today.

Ballers dominated the first quarter which ended 18-10. Bayland managed to pull things back through forward Justin Pile who top-scored with 18 points as well as pulling down 13 rebounds. He also had two blocks. At the end of the second quarter Bayland were down by a mere three points.

Early in the third quarter the score was locked at 29 points each but coming on to the end of the penultimate quarter Garrison guard Shaquan Newton proved too much for the Bayland defence to handle. He was later named the most valuable player after scoring 26 points and an overall tally of 112 in the tournament. Guard Andrew Ifill also had a good game controlling the tempo of the play for the Garrison. The score was 43-37 going into the decisive quarter and the Ballers would maintain control of proceedings up to the final whistle.

Zishan Motara was named the most valuable player in the Under-12 division while the most disciplined player, also in that age group, was Tyrell Gill. (ML)
