‘Free of all disease’
Dr Sebi claims herbs can heal anything
In the prime of his youth, Dr Sebi, born Alfredo Bowman, was unhealthy, angry and ready to commit suicide.
“I was diabetic from 27 until 30; I was impotent from 28 until 30; I was asthmatic from birth until 30. So everything that you find in the Caribbean I was affected with.
“I thought of blowing my brains out; and I meant to do it,” Dr Sebi revealed as he shared the story of his journey through health.
Visit after visit to conventional doctors failed to alleviate his suffering, and in his poor state he was admitted to an asylum, suffering with schizophrenia and paranoia. But he would get a new lease on life after following a friend’s advice to see a Mexican herbologist reputed to cure all ills.
According to Dr Sebi, the experience was life-changing, as he was challenged to make radical changes to his general way of life and his diet, which included no meat and starches.
“I stopped eating for 90 days. I drank herbs, water and juice; herbs, water and juice. Ninety days later, I lost 98 pounds. I was weighing 291. I was disease-free.”
His remarkable recovery led him to explore the uses of herbs in Africa where he conducted in-depth research.
“So I began to select from the forests the plants that were considered by geologists to be native plants. Native plants are those not created in a laboratory, such as aloe vera, such as peppermint . . . ginseng; these are hybrids. I selected electric plants. I found out that each plant has a different DNA.
“The Holy Bible teaches that herbs are for the healing of the nations. The father of medicine Hippocrates established the practice of medical science by using herbs, not chemicals. So I decided to put these compounds together and I was successful.”
The Honduran-born herbalist, who never went to school, used these herbs and others to create what he calls “natural compounds” to cleanse and revitalize the cells that make up the human body. Dr Sebi stands on the premise that conventional medicine is not suitable for black people and he strongly rejects the idea that diseases are caused by germs and viruses.
He purports that disease can only exist in environments that are acidic and the proper way to treat illness is to restore the body to its alkaline state.
“Their compounds do not complement the genetical predisposition of the black race. A black man can only ingest that which is known as an alkaline substance because that’s all we have in Africa.”
Excited by his findings, Dr Sebi returned to Los Angeles, United States, and his first patient, who was blind, was healed in two days. He then travelled to several countries, including Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Dominica, St Croix and Puerto Rico, to share what he called “a message of salvation” for black people, but he was rejected.
“They kept kicking me out.”
But this did not stop him from offering healing to many who wanted to be rid of their diseases; and so word quickly spread that Dr Sebi, who travelled to New York, had healed patients of AIDS, blindness, diabetes, cancer, multiple sclerosis, leukemia and other ailments. His fame would however land in him in hot water with American authorities; and in November, 1988, he was arrested and imprisoned on three charges – that he was practising medicine without a licence, selling products that were not approved by the Federal Drug Administration, and falsely claiming that he could cure AIDS.
He was later cleared of all charges after patients testified that they were cured by his treatments.
“I won the case proving that I had cured people of diabetes and AIDS.”
Dr Sebi offers his cures from the USHA Village Healing Centre in his native Honduras.
Registered nurse Pauline Gooding, who is hosting Dr Sebi, says it was the “miracles at his village” that led her to invite him to share his message of healing with Barbadians.
“I saw people healed of skin cancer, where the skin is actually falling off and they are oozing from their head to their toes . . . . Within two weeks they were healed.
I met people there that had diabetes that were healed. I met people there that had MS [multiple sclerosis] who couldn’t walk, couldn’t talk, couldn’t finish a sentence, that after a few months in the village were doing the above and learning to walk all over again.
“But most of all I said to Dr Sebi during our conversation, ‘My people are dying every day from the complications relating to diabetes’. . . . I wanted him to come to Barbados to lecture to the people to turn around this crucial emergency situation that is happening here.”
At 81 years old, Dr Sebi, the proud father of a three-month-old baby and a three-year-old daughter, declares he is disease-free and ready to share his secret for optimal health with Barbadians.
“I want to live forever. I want to continue making babies. I want to laugh with you; and the only way I would be able to do that is if I feed myself the food that is consistent with my cellular predisposition; and that DNA is African.”
