Epic weekend

Story and pictures by Christoff Griffith

This years’ annual AnimeKon Expo was totally epic.

And the hundreds of gamers and cosplayers who filled the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last Saturday and Sunday would be first to state this as fact. Lovers of pop culture came out in their numbers to support their various “fandoms”, and they didn’t come from Barbados only either.

People from all over the globe participated in and enjoyed the various competitions, whether they were taking part in the karaoke, won by Barbados TODAY’S very own Kamilah Cadogan, or other featured activities.

The highlight, though, was definitely the cosplay competition. Cosplay entails the dressing up in costumes to portray one’s favourite character.

In this competition the crowd enjoyed the onstage presentations of some locally created characters, as well as the known anime characters like Kakashi Hatake from Naruto, Dark Link from Legends Of Zelda and Kratos from God Of War. The ultimate winner was Shannon Williams as Akasha from the movie Queen Of The Damned.

It was a hive of activities and fun and we “anime freaks” definitely got our money’s worth –– and cannot wait for AnimeKon Expo 2015!
