Two prisoners freed

Tears flowed freely and shouts of ‘thank you Jesus’ filled the air, as former rape and robbery convicts Orlando Lorde and Peter Forde walked out of Dodds Prison in St.Philip this morning – three years ahead of time – and into the warm embrace of their mothers and other family members.

Both men, who were among three sentenced in 1999 for the 1995 rape and robbery of a minibus conductress at French Village, St. Peter, were over the moon at their new freedom.

After spending 15 years behind bars, their early release came after successfully applying to the local Privy Council based on their outstanding conduct and exemplary lives their led while in jail.

What about the victim, who has to bear the lifetime emotional and psychological scars? They did commit a horrendous crime, so they should have to do the time, good behaviour or not. A young woman’s life has been deeply affected, not theirs.

Welcome home Peter! They were released based on their conduct since being in there from 1999. Peter has been involved in a drama group, Nifca and other such things which targets young ppl and warns them of the dangers a life in crime really brings. At least he is TRYING to be positive, lord knows theirs something called forgiveness.

Do notice that i did not belittle the crime, its not as if they were out and about for the last 15yrs, yes it was rape and robbery. So is Barbados the only country in the world which releases convicts for good behavior? I think not!

Some of these comments sound like pure hatred, this is interesting. These men and women behind bars made mistakes, also, they had mothers and fathers too regardless of the crime. What are we really saying? Each day young boys and girls are sent up, some of them came from great families some not. Do you know what the future holds for your family? One can never take away the pain and anguish of that crime from the victim. What are we really saying? No to fogiveness?Even if its one of your family members? Really?

I’m sure they weren’t thinking of their mothers sisters aunts an when they committed this horrible act. If they were they surely wouldn’t have done it.

How about we interview the victims and see how they feel. Interview the families and victims and then write about that. Don’t write about exemplary lives behind bars where they had no opportunity to offend. Irritated!

That woman has to live with that violation for the rest of her life so why shouldn’t those men be punished accordingly? There is such a thing as forgiveness but some things are unforgivable in my opinion… and don’t dare quote scriptures about forgiveness. Robbing can be overlooked but raping her too? Come on.

And they are being glorified with their picture in the paper because what…?

    We glorify criminals?

Yes they served most of their time but how will the victim feel seeing this? Disgraceful!

Rape an robbery is a serious crime in the USA you get life for that an if u rape u become a sex offender for life which means u must register as a sex offender your id has a stamp on the front saying I am a sex offender when u move into a neighborhood u have to go door to door an let everyone know that u are a sex offender + they send out a poster picture to everyone letting them know a sex offender is moving In there are not allowed to live in a house with girls under 18 yrs of age and younger an if there are pulled over by police at anytime for anything they get some real police treatment that’s how u treat these animals

Rape victims are scarred for the rest of their lives. We can forgive but not forget. I will never understand the justice system. Not sure which crime I would get more time for; weed, murder, robbery, assault. Father, guide and protect my child.

Ppl rape and rob and out of jail. Ppl get hold wa lil weed and still in jail..

  23. Wizzie June 26, 2014 at 2:25 pm

We have to learn to forgave others, yes what these guys did was wrong, but remember that a lot of us do things that if was found out would carry jail time or some type of penalty. My heart goes out to the Vitim of the crime and my pray is that those in power make sure that she and other victims are taken care of so that their capacity to function would not be inhabited.

Things would never be better about here these people taking your life spending couple of years behind bars and then coming out and walking all about after taking a life u got to be kidding me /Tell me how the victims family feels or its it ok

15 years is nothing to the victim and their family, they have a real lifetime sentence. Those men should not be allowed to just walk free and clear. At a minimum a curfew enforced with an ankle monitoring system should be employed so that their movements can be tracked. Rapists don’t just rape once.

  27. Sanderson Rowe June 26, 2014 at 4:14 pm

” Thank you Jesus!” ?????????????? How about the ” Lord have mercy!”from the victim.

  28. Nia June 26, 2014 at 4:40 pm

They should not thank Jesus, because He did not let them out of jail, our flawed judicial system did. I remember this case very well and my heart broke over what they put that poor lady through. It was horrendous and I think it is disgusting that they were released early. It is not enough to know that Jesus forgives all sins and think that is enough to give you a clear conscience. You are supposed to show genuine remorse, empathy and concern for your victim. I bet they don’t even think about her or really understand what they did to her. They will just come out, expect to get a job, and live happily ever after. Won’t even think about donating five cents to a woman’s shelter or to other rape victims to show genuine remorse. And of course they will be enabled by a lot of women friends and family members who will try to justify and ignore their despicable actions that night. My prayers, love and thoughts continue to go out to both of their victims – especially the lady. May God Bless you.

  29. Nia June 26, 2014 at 5:00 pm

Julie Leenders, forgiveness does not mean that people should be allowed to escape justice, especially when they have caused untold trauma and devastation to their victims. They should be made to serve the full-term and then pay compensation to the victim herself or to other rape victims when they are released. Are you even aware of the actual details surrounding this case? Because Jesus forgives us all and because we who are Christians in turn should always forgive others does not mean that the perpetrators should not demonstrate remorse towards their victims. St. Paul was the worst murderer of Christians but when he was saved and repented he sacrificed a lot for the remainder of his life doing the right thing. Too many people think that repentance and forgiveness means: “Ah boy, now I get to just breeze through life and not have to care one iota about how I made others suffer before, because Jesus loves me.”

So wait how should this woman react to walk through swan street and see one of these guys???!? It will always be a bad and ridiculous part of her life!!!maybe this have change here entire life and it’s not righteous but their did the crime and they spend the time, the most we can do is pray to god that their got older and wiser not to repeat that mischievous behaviour again because bim is small..

  31. k taitt June 27, 2014 at 5:28 am

is 15 years enough time to fit the crime, i guess we have to ask the woman that was rape, and rob, if she say yes then i wish them well, if she say no, karma will be the outcome
