Weathering the storm
BHTA honours players in tourism industry
The Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) honoured its own and industries associated with the sector at its gala over the weekend.
A combination of 15 individual winners and representatives of organisations strutted the stage at Bellevue Plantation, Waterford, to receive awards for outstanding activities ranging from sensitivity to the environment and educating school children, to appreciation of outstanding work.
Executive Vice-President Sue Springer picked up the Lifetime Achievement Award and forecast a positive future for tourism.
“I think Barbados in all honesty has weathered the storm pretty well. I’m absolutely delighted to see and hear about the investment that is now going on in the industry,” said the woman who has been the BHTA administrator for 13 years, and continues to hold that position.
“You know, you just had Gordon Seale become the owner of Amaryllis, we have had Butch Stewart actually saying he wants to purchase Almond Beach Village. We just had Four Seasons purchased. These are all positive moves, something that I am extremely excited about, because we’ve had a lot of these hotels laying waste for the last eight years.”
