Netball tourney heating up

Chalky Mount, St Margaret’s, A DaCosta Edwards and St Joseph Primary all recorded wins as the Pine Hill Dairy-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Netball Tournament continued today at St Elizabeth, St Joseph.

Playing in the Anna Shepherd Zone, the featured game saw Chalky Mount Primary make light work of St John Primary with a 10-0 result. Chalky Mount wasted no time scoring three early goals and went into the second half leading 4-0. Chalky Mount goal shooter Deshonte Benskin scored six goals from nine attempts while goal attack, Keane Worrell scored four from six.

St John failed to mark the Chalky Mount players who capitalized by keeping the ball in their possession for most of the game with some lovely execution of passes and clean catches.

Home team St Elizabeth Primary were defeated 4-1 by a dominant St Margaret’s Primary. St Elizabeth often failed to hang on to several passes and this allowed St. Margaret’s trio of wing attack Kiara Gittens, goal attack Aphia Lorde who scored two from two and goal shoot Jahliyah Haynes who also scored two from two, to create goal-scoring opportunities.

St Elizabeth’s Trinity Noel looked comfortable on the court and accounted for their lone goal.

Two teams from St Joseph were in action with A DaCosta Edwards winning 7-0 over St Joseph Primary. A DaCosta Edwards led 5-0 at the half. Goal-attack Tashara John looked in fine form and scored five goals from five attempts while goal shoot Sadasha Springer chipped in with two from
two attempts.

St Joseph redeemed themselves in their second game against St John Primary when they won 1-0. St Joseph, just like a few of the other teams, appeared to have oil on their hands failing to hold numerous passes. However St Joseph managed to get a pass to their goal shoot, Aliyah Layne, who made good her shot in the first half. When the second half resumed St Joseph Primary did all they could to buy time and hang on to their one goal lead for the victory.

St Margaret’s Primary and Chalky Mount who both won their earlier matches played to a 2-2 draw in their second game against each other. Goal shoot for St Margaret’s Jaliah Haynes scored two and goal shoot for Chalky Mount Deshonte Benskin also scored two.

In the Angela Gibbs Zone played at Bridgefield, St Thomas, St Bernard’s Primary registered victories over Hillaby’s Turner Hall (7-1) and Sharon Primary (5-1) Tashara Holdipp had the hot hands for the winners netting five goals from nine attempts against Sharon and five goals from six attempts against Hillaby Turners Hall

However, both Hillaby Turners Hall and Sharon still managed to score victories.  The former defeated St Winifred’s 3-0, while Sharon got the better  of Holy Innocents 4-1. Tatianna Bailey scored three goals from four attempts to lead her team’s offensive efforts. After suffering defeats at the hands of the other teams on show, St Winifred and Holy Innocents got the chance to score a consolation win and St Winifred’s got a narrow 2-1 victory.
