Antiguans and Barbudans would go to the polls to elect a new government on June 12, Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer announced last night.

He told a rally of his United Progressive Party that the Writ for Elections would be issued on May 16, while Nomination Day would be on May 21.

Prime Minister Spencer told the thousands of supporters present that his party, which is seeking a third consecutive term in office, stands on its record and deserves to be re-elected.

We have to galvanize the people and defeat them. You have to do it for yourself, for your community and country,” he said.

The most important consideration is that you want to stay the course and keep Antigua free and democratic and keep out those who are not about people’s development but their own enrichment.”
