Player escapes; horse dies

Yesterday’s first day of the Digicel Hickstead Tournament at Apes Hill Polo Ground, St. James got off to a somewhat inauspicious start.

The ICBL team defeated Apes Hill White 4-2 in an exhibition game and this was followed by a thrilling encounter between Hickstead and Apes Hill Black with the former emerging with the 5-4 result before an appreciative crowd.

However, during the latter game Apes Hill’s Oliver Williams’ mount collapsed under him and died from an apparent heart attack. Luckily, Williams, who had an outstanding game, escaped serious injury during the fall.
