Police probing two shootings

Police are probing two more shooting incidents which occurred over night, with law enforcement officers being the target

of one of the attacks.

The first gun assault, in which a detective was slightly injured, happened at around 11 o’clock last night in Chapman Lane,

The City, about six hours after a 21-year-old man was shot and killed at point-blank range in the same area.

Police spokesman Inspector David Welch said members of the Criminal Investigation Department were on mobile patrol

in Chapman Lane, when they were shot at a number of times by unknown assailants. Welch said officers returned fire and the

attackers fled.

Just over an hour later, police were called to another shooting; this time at Small Town, Haynesville in St James.

A 25-year-old man, who lives in the same district, was wounded in his right shoulder and neck. The victim, Shamir

Nicholas, was reportedly involved in a dispute with another man and was shot.

Nicholas was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance, where he underwent surgery. (EJ)
