18-year-old is latest road fatality
An 18-year-old is Barbados’ second road fatality for the year.
Xavier Mansour, of Blue Waters, Rockley, Christ Church died around 1:45 this morning when a car he was driving was involved in an accident with another vehicle on Rendezvous Road, near to its junction with Amity Lodge, Christ Church.
He had to be freed from his badly damaged vehicle by members of the Barbados Fire Service using the jaws-of-life.
Both he and the driver of the other vehicle, Franco Diamanti, 45, of Simmons Land, Christ Church were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where Mansour later died.
Diamanti remains hospitalized with a broken right foot, a left pelvis, broken left ankle, and a gash to his forehead.
The first fatal accident for 2014 occurred on January 9 when a minibus and a Transport Board bus collided in Eagle Hall, St Michael. George Anthony Blackman, 62, of 7th Avenue Harts Gap, Christ Church lost his life in that accident.
In a statement issued about Mansour’s death, Police Public Relations Officer Inspector David Welch appealed to road users to exercise greater caution.
He says investigations are continuing into this morning’s accident.
