Economist says more downgrades likely

Economist Ryan Straughn is warning that more credit rating downgrades could be in the works for Barbados.

Yesterday, Standard & Poor’s moved the country’s long-term rating from BB+ to BB- due to persistent account deficit and high fiscal deficit.

Straughn, who’s the former president of the economic society, says another US ratings agency, Moody’s, could soon follow.

A reasonable consideration, unfortunately Ryan, the government does not take you seriously enough to heed your advice.

Are we Bajans all going to stand by and watch our country go down the drain, directed by a misguided few people who seem not to know how to take us out of this mire of a financial mess? 280,000 Bajans will be negatively impacted by these decisions. Is it our “slave mentality” that we will wait for the master to do something. How did Bussa change things?
