Brit remanded on drug charges

A British man who allegedly tried to take a kilo of cocaine out of Barbados has been remanded to prison.

Robert Matthew Hayward, 35, was charged with possession, possession with intention to supply, trafficking and attempting to export after been arrested at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Thursday.

Police say he went to the airport to get a flight to the United Kingdom but officers from the Drug Squad interviewed him and his suitcase was searched.

The package of cocaine was discovered in a false bottom of his suitcase.

Hayward appeared at the District “A” Magistrate Court yesterday and was remanded to appear at the District B Magistrates Court next Wednesday.
