Local singer on a mission to raise funds to launch world tour

miachanlaunchkneesA local singer has started a drive to raise money to go on another tour this year.

After three successful performing trips to Dutch St. Maarten between June and August this year, Mia Ch’An is now preparing to launch a world tour of sorts, most likely to begin next month.

This promotional trip, Ch’An said, will include South Africa, Greece, London and Brazil.

Last Wednesday she held a fund-raising concert at Major Noott Hall at the Combermere School to help defray the cost of the proposed trip, which was originally scheduled to begin toward the end of this month.

However, she said because the concert did not raise the required amount of money she expected, she would now have to find other sources. Ch’An is also looking to release a music video of her pending single I Wish.

But all these plans, the artist noted, depended on money.

During her recent concert she performed songs in such genres as jazz, soul, R&B, pop, hip hop and reggae. Ch’An pointed out that her main idiom of music was pop, with island fusions in the same vein as Rihanna’s Man Down.

She said that while reggae was currently part of her repertoire, she was now working on including spouge, considered an indigenous Barbadian beat.

Ch’An was supported at her concert by songsters Tabitha Johnson, Blue Diamond and Karma Nai. (EJ)
