Gunfire at wake kills one

PORT OF SPAIN — A lone gunman opened fire on mourners at a wake for Darron Dyer in Monkey Town, Barrackpore, on Tuesday night, killing one man and injuring two others, including the sister of Dyer.

The dead man has been identified as Keith Lingum, 52, of Cemetery Street, Third Branch Road, Monkey Town. The injured, who are warded at San Fernando General Hospital, are Crystal Dyer, sister of Darron Dyer — who was shot to death on Sunday night — and Shaquille Jones.

Crystal, 32, was shot on the buttocks, while Jones was shot on the upper thigh. The drama started around 11:30 p.m, as the lone gunman pulled up along Cemetery Street, where the wake was in progress.

The gunman, wearing a white hat and black clothing, came out a grey Mitsibushi and started firing wildly at the mourners, who were playing cards and liming. Mourners started scampering for safety.

A single bullet struck Lingum in his head. He stumbled onto the roadway and was run over by a passing vehicle. A post-mortem performed by forensic pathologist Dr Valerie Alendrov showed that Lingum died as a result of a single bullet wound to the head and serious injuries about his body, as a result of the accident. Darron Dyer, 30, was shot several times about the body while in the company of friends outside a neighbour’s house on Sunday.

His sister, Petal, found him on the roadway around 10:50 p.m. that night with gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen. He died before either police or ambulance arrived. Investigations into the two incidents are continuing. (Guardian)
