Last hurrah at Bushy Park

t will be a day of spills, thrills and death-defying stunts when the Barbados Auto Racing League in association with the Barbados Karting Association and The Barbados Association of Dragsters & Drifters, host a day of exciting racing at the Bushy Park Racing Circuit, St. Philip, on Sunday June 30.

The day’s event, which is sponsored by Beacon Insurance, will feature a “four for the price of one” final race meet at the historic 42-year-old racing circuit, which will be demolished to make way for the new proposed multi-purpose racing facility due to be constructed and completed by late 2014.

It is for this reason that BARL has invited competitors from the BKA, BADD and bikers to give hundreds of racing enthusiasts a packed day of activities as a fitting finale at the mecca for car racing competitions.

Barbadians are encouraged to come out in large numbers to cheer on the present and future motor sport competitors, some of whom are as young as 11-years-old, as they compete against each other in Go-Karts races. Spectators will also witness the “cream of the crop” of drag racers in the Island as they launch their high powered machines down the 1/8 mile drag strip. There will also be bike racers competing on the day’s card will also feature several of BARL’s top competitors

such as Stuart Williams, Steve King, Kurt Thompson Jerry Leach, Philip Moe, Snappa Husbands, Mark Thompson and Jason Harewood to list a few.

A BARL versus BADD challenge, and a “big mouth” race are guaranteed to “set tongues wagging among spectators” before the day’s event culminates with the Monster Energy Handicap to bring the curtain down on the grand finale. The Beacon Insurance sponsored Festival of Speed event will no doubt be one of mixed emotions for several tens of thousands of Barbadians who have taken up every vantage point for over the last four decades on this prime piece of real estate, to watch their favourite drivers compete against each other and against several regional and International drivers.

According to chairman of the league Stehan Hinds, Sunday’s event will be an excellent opportunity for lovers and supporters of Bushy Park to come out in large numbers as BARL will be using the occasion not only to give back, but to also thank all their loyal fans for their support over the years by staging a meet of this magnitude. There will be lots of extras including a VIP tent which will be opened from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. with a spacious elevated covered deck giving optimum view of the entire circuit.
