St. Cyprian’s lift title

The St. Cyprian’s Boys’ School emerged as champions of the United Insurance Primary Schools Chess Championship recently held at the St. Michael School.

The championship this year saw an increased number of participants with 21 teams taking part from 15 private and public primary schools. Also noteworthy was the number of girls in this year’s event which has shown a significant increase.

After the six rounds of intense competition, St. Cyprian’s amassed 42 points, followed by Charles F Broomes on 39 points, St. Gabriel’s on 38 points, Wesley Hall on 36 points and Milton Lynch also on 36 points.

Defending champions Arthur Smith ended in 7th place with 34 points.The players of the victorious team were Christopher Burnett, Shane Skinner, Jordan Mapp, Jayden Walker, Christopher Walfal and Raphael Clarke.

Next on the schedule is the United Inter-school Secondary Championship which will take place on June 22 and 29 at the St Michael School.
