Four going for glory

St. Bartholomew’s Shakado Scott makes a great clearance against Deacons.

West Terrace, Cuthbert Moore, St. Bartholomew’s and Wilkie Cumberbatch are into the semi-finals of the Bico-sponsored National Sports Council’s Primary Schools Football Tournament.

Today at Bagatelle, St. Thomas Wilkie Cumberbatch defeated defending champions St. Gabriel’s 2-0 to book their place in Monday’s semis. Scoring for Wilkie Cumberbatch were Tranikko Browne and Tajio James.

Also at Bagatelle, St. Bartholomew’s skillful Thierry Gale again scored in the tournament as did team-mate Thierry Jones as they beat Deacons Primary 2-1, for whom Shaquem Goddard scored.

At Trent’s, St. James, Cuthbert Moore virtually dodged a bullet when they recovered from being two goals down at half-time to beat St. Stephen’s Primary 3-2. Scoring for St. Stephen’s was the consistent Raheem Holligan, while Shabari Lynch responded with a brace of his own and Krishna Quintyne also found the back of the nets.

In the second game at Trents, West Terrace did a great job neutralising Arthur Smith’s danger man Niall Reid-Stephen to defeat them 1-0, compliments of a strike from Khamal Cumberbatch.

Next Monday’s semi-finals, to be played at Trents, will see Wilkie Cumberbatch with a record of seven wins and two losses in the tournament, taking on St. Bartholomew’s (seven wins, one defeat, one draw) at 9:30 a.m., and Cuthbert Moore (nine wins) coming up against West Terrace (nine wins) at 10:30 a.m. West Terrace and Cuthbert Moore are the only unbeaten teams in the competition.

The final is slated for June 20.
