Cops under siege
KINGSTON — The police are reporting that they have been coming under increasing attack from criminals.
In a statement last night the Constabulary Communication Network said between January 1 and June 1 gunmen shot at police personnel on 331 occasions.
This is an average of 66 times a month.
The CNN said five cops were shot dead and close to forty others injured.
It also said in most instances the police only escaped injury or death because of their superior training.
According to the CCN, a number of the attacks took place when the police were attempting to apprehend wanted men, gang leaders and drug dealers.
While the police are reporting worrying attacks against cops, there are also complaints in several parishes that the police have been engaging in extra judicial killing of civilians.
The police are warning cops to constantly be on high alert. (Gleaner)
