Plus sized women in the spotlight

curvymodelagencyPlus sized modeling is becoming a curvy revolution slowly but surely in Barbados and there is an agency that is ensuring that the latter statement is to be truly proven

Alicia Clarke, founder of the Curvy Revolution Plus Sized Modeling Agency told Bajan Vibes that the running of the agency has been “great” so far and at their launch there was a lot of feedback from the public.

The agency, which started in January 7 this year, is in the process of preparing for a lingerie fashion show which they were hired to do at the Sunset Lounge. Clarke believed this would be a good way to inspire plus sized women because of their thoughts of being too big to wear lingerie.

She charged that the boutiques would not sell lingerie because plus sized women would not have enough self esteem to wear them.

The 2010 winner of Barbados plus Sized Competition, Clarke said that they have teamed up with most of the boutiques that sell plus size clothing to inspire and encourage full figure women to wear lingerie. Clarke continued to state that there are plus sized women out there who have low self esteem and would love to model once given the opportunity.

She also stated that she always wanted to motivate plus sized women after winning the competition.

“Being out there every time you see a woman it is from size zero to two, they do not want to see any plus sized ladies, all you see in the magazines, on the runways and everywhere you go are the small ladies. I figured that it is time to give us plus sized women a chance.”

The owner of the modeling agency further said she has not encountered many challenges where the running of the company is concerned and noted she is willing to go through the hardships while putting God first.

Clarke added that although the agency is catering to big women there is a healthy aspect aligned to everything. “My ladies are going into the gym because you are plus sized you do not have to be fat, eating junk food and not caring for your body because you still have to tone up and watch what you eat,” she said.

The 12 women who are preparing for the upcoming fashion show have been receiving appropriate sponsorship from various companies and boutiques. (MR)
