ICT reach

businessdigicelbusinessictconferenceAfter nine years of successfully bringing value to the local market and positioning itself as Barbados’ leading mobile provider, Digicel is poised to become the island’s number one total telecommunications company by merging telecommunications and information technology in a way never seen before in Barbados.

In a statement issued today, Digicel said a significant part of this thrust related to developments surrounding the company’s move to make significant inroads into the realm of Information Communications Technology, with the launch of Digicel Business last month, signalling Digicel’s official entry into that area.

Head of ICT Sales & Enterprise Solutions with Digicel Business, Jaggernauth Dass, said that with Digicel now being the only company in Barbados capable of providing a complete ICT solution for businesses, the potential is there for Digicel to become the island’s leading ICT solutions provider:

“By integrating Information Technology and Telecommunications, we can provide solutions to a range of business problems, leading to sustainable revenues and lower operating expenses. We have been very strategic in our business partnerships and acquisitions, to bring the best ICT solutions to Barbados,” Dass said.

“Once we have identified and agreed upon the requirements of the business solution, we can provide all of the hardware, software and professional services, in addition to supplying reliable connectivity though our broadband and GSM networks.

“The seamless combination of these two areas, both of which we own and manage, provides incremental benefits and cost savings that otherwise would be lost due to a business having to procure services from more than one company. With Digicel Business, companies have a one stop for all of their ICT needs.”

Dass, who is known in the industry as an ICT and cloud services expert, also spoke about the company’s positioning in the provision of cloud services, an area that is receiving considerable attention in the business sector due to the benefits which can be derived from its use:

“Digicel is an industry leader in cloud services. We can assist you by cutting through the hype to develop a sound roadmap covering not only technology, but also people and process. IT moves from reactive to innovative and transforms from a cost centre to strategic stakeholder.”

To ensure they meet the needs of the market, the statement added, Digicel has also made a number of significant moves in the area of human resources, hiring a best in class field of ICT management professionals with decades of experience in the ICT sector at leading companies in Barbados, across the region and beyond.

With additional hires planned over the next few months and the scheduled move into a state-of-the-art innovation centre in Oistins, Christ Church that will house all of Digicel Business’ expertise, Digicel is certainly ready to take over Barbados’ ICT space.
