local karate fraternity elects new leadership

The International Shotokan Karate Federation of Barbados held its annual general meeting last weekend and Peter Warren was elected to serve as chairman and chief instructor of the federation for 2013.

†Others elected were: Grantley Barrow (president); Kevin Bentham (vice-president); Karen Downie (secretary); Simon Walker (assistant secretary); Deborah Lowe (treasurer); Margarette Clarke (assistant treasurer); Julie Gardier and Michael Roberts (club representatives).

††The local federation is comprised of two clubs UCKC Martial Arts and The Royal Barbados Police Force’s Shotokan Karate Club.

†During the year the federation will be sending an 18-member team to compete in the I.S.K.F. Caribbean karate Championships to be held in the British Virgin Islands in July.

†Senior members lead by Sensei Peter Warren will also be attending the ISKF Master Camp and Goodwill Tournament in June of this year. The participation at these events will go a long way in the continued development of ISKF in Barbados and the Caribbean.

†The federation is planning a number of fund-raising drives in order to offset the cost of participating at these events.
