BCA awards cricketers

Batting all-rounder Jonathan Carter and leg-spinner Akeem Dewar, both of BCA Elite Division champions, Sagicor Life UWI, are among the Cave Shepherd Five Cricketers of the Year for last season.

The others are all-rounders Renaldo Brathwaite of the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme and ICBL Empire’s Roston Chase, and Super Centre Spartan batsman Marrodon Bend.

The winners received their prizes at the awards ceremony at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre on Saturday night.

Each player won a Trophy, $500 cash and a $500 Cave Shepherd voucher, compliments of Cave Shepherd & Co. Ltd.

Other notable awardees were Pamela Lavine and Shai Hope. Lavine, a veteran batting all-rounder, performed outstandingly in domestic women’s cricket and received an award for scoring the most runs in the Iris Walker Women’s Tournament.

Hope, the Barbados Under-19 captain who had an outstanding 2012 at the youth level and is considered by many not to be far off being a regular in the Barbados senior national team, copped the President’s Award for his efforts, inclusive of leading Barbados to victory in the regional youth tournament.
