Third Jamaican caught with drugs

A Jamaican businesswoman was today sentenced to two years in jail for bringing marijuana into Barbados.

When 48 year old Monica Ecilda Skervin, appeared in the District “B” Magistrate’s Court today, she pleaded guilty to all four of the offences for which she was charged — possession, possession with intent to supply, trafficking and importation.

Skervin was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the possession count, but received a total of two years on the others.

The convict, the third Jamaican woman to be held on drugs charges this year, arrived at Grantley Adams International Airport at around 7:30 last night, when she was found with three pounds of marijuana hidden in the bottom of a bag she had as luggage. (EJ)††
