Sir Everton 88 not out

The West Indies Cricket Board and the West Indies Cricket Team have extended heartiest birthday greetings to West Indies legend Sir Everton who celebrates his 88th birthday today.

Sir Everton is one of the most prolific batsmen in the history of the game and one of the most popular West Indies cricketers of all time.

Sir Everton was born in Barbados on February 26, 1925. He was a member of the famous Three Ws – which also included Sir Frank Worrell and Sir Clyde Walcott.

Sir Everton represented the West Indies in 48 Test matches between from 1948 and 1958. He made 4,455 runs at the impressive average of 58.61 runs per innings. He made 15 Test centuries – including a record five in consecutive innings.

Dr Julian Hunte, President of the West Indies Cricket Board, saluted the legend on his special day.

“On behalf of the West Indies Cricket Board, the West Indies Team and cricket lovers all across the Caribbean I want to send heartfelt greetings to the great Sir Everton Weekes on reaching this milestone in his life. He was one of our greatest cricketers and a true ambassador for the game. We hope he enjoys his birthday,” said Dr Hunte.

“Sir Everton belongs to a special group of West Indian cricketers. He was a pioneer in the early days of West Indies cricket and paved the way for what we have today.
