St. Leonard’s make CP pay for mistakes

It was a case of carpe diem for St. Leonard’s Secondary today as they took advantage of three defensive blunders by Coleridge and Parry to finish with a 3-1 victory at the school’s Richmond Gap, St. Michael playing field.

But truth be told, it was not a score-line that reflected the keenly contested match-up of the two teams in the Coco Cola-sponsored Barbados Secondary School’s Under-16 Football Competition.

The home team opened their account as early as the fourth minute thanks to a moment of individual brilliance from Rashad Philips. However the boys from St. Peter came storming back and a period of sustained pressure yielded fruit for Anderson Greaves, who found the back of the net in the ninth minute to put both teams on even keel going into the half-time interval.

In the second half the energy of the match suggested it was headed for a tame draw until poor defensive marking off a St. Leonard’s corner allowed an unmarked Trey Ifill to sneak in behind the “ball-watching” Coleridge and Parry defence, to hit a header home at the far post.

The CP boys did their best to find the equaliser and came close from a free kick attempt just outside of the 18 -yard area.

However the wind was taken out of their sails when a goal keeper spot-kick landed fortuitously for Akobi Bell, who made no mistake in his finishing.†††
