‘Mischief’ in Ivy

troubleintheivyA mid-morning raid of a block on 4th Avenue, Skeete’s Road, the Ivy, by officers of the Royal Barbados Police Force has aroused the ire of several youngsters who spend most of their leisure time there.

Wheelchair bound, Dwayne Boyce, told a team from Barbados TODAY that just after 10 a.m. a squad of policemen raided the area and destroyed the bench on which the younsters sit.

Boyce further stated that after destroying the bench the officers returned and took away one youth.

It is understood that after news spread about the incident, BLP candidate for the area, Trevor Prescod, calypsonian Gabby and attorneys-at-law, Mia Mottley and Arthur Holder visited the site.

Prescod charged there was no basis for the police raid since youngsters of the area have been spending most of their leisure time at the location for over 30 years.

Meanwhile, Randolph Outram, campaign manager for Democratic Labour Party candidate in the area suggested that recent events were being staged by operatives of the BLP to create mischief.

He said: “If a forensic investigation could be applied to the situation you would see the fingerprints of a well known BLP operative. This is their modus operandi. It has been applied before in the constituency but I thought we had gotten rid of this 19th century brand of politics.

DLP candidate, Kenny Best, told Barbados TOday that he had a very busy schedule in the morning and later attended a funeral in the afternoon and was therefore unaware of any development.

“I am unaware of any incident in the Ivy and would like to tell Barbadians that I do not associate with any lawlessness,” he added. (NC)

i am from the same block and the dlp know very well what is going on. the guys were threatened because of who they plan to vote for. this thing has gone way too far and everyone that was there yesterday kno that the blp had nothing to do with what is going on. further more they came to hear the plies of the men because there has been constant harassment by the police and even worse now they trying to force us to vote for who them want us to vote for. all sorts of people saw the police terrorizing the men yesterday and heard the slurs giving by them but it is elections day so certain things cant be published but just wait till it is over. win or lose what transpired yesterday wouldn’t be pushed under the carpet so dlp candidates could as well say this one jumped them but the point is this thing has gotten out of control.
