Guyana were 94 for one in pursuit of 378 for victory at the close of play on the third day of their second round WICB Regional Four-Day match against Barbados at Kensington Oval today.
The not out batsmen were Rajindra Chandrika on 40 and Leon Johnson, 39. Tagenarine Chanderpaul was the batsman dismissed leg before wicket by fast bowler Christopher Jordan for nine.
Starting the day on nought without loss, Barbados batted enterprisingly and declared at 235 for seven off 71.5 overs half-an-hour after tea.
Opener Rashidi Boucher top-scored in the Barbados second innings with a career-best 81. He batted for 207 minutes, faced 161 balls and struck seven fours and three sixes. Roston Chase also showed good touch but would have been disappointed to fall short of a half-century when he was the seventh wicket to fall, caught at mid-off by Ronsford Beaton off Zaheer Mohammed for 49.
West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite again failed when he was out caught at the wicket by Derwin Christian off off-spinner Steven Jacobs for 27. After his first innings ton captain Kirk Edwards was also caught by Christian off Jacobs for nought.
With a declaration on the cards a number of the batsmen perished in the pursuit of quick runs. Kyle Hope, hitting out, was caught at deep mid-on by Jacobs off Guyana captain and left-arm spinner Veerasamy Permaul for five while Jonathan Carter, who made 85 in the first innings, was bowled by fast bowler Ronsford Beaton for 25.
Boucher, who played a very composed innings, was eventually leg before wicket by pacer Keon Joseph in the 50th over with the score on 162 for 5.
Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich played attractively before he was caught at slip by Leon Johnson off leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo for 24. Jacobs has so far taken two for 49 off 17.
