Cool Runnings are a perfect six wins from as many games on the eight-team table in the UWIHC/UWI Hockey Scrimfest Championship currently being contested at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

Live Up are second on the table on 15 points after losing one of the six games they have played so far. In third position are UWIHC on 10 points from three wins and one draw.†

Combermere School Old Scholars have a similar points tally but with an inferior goal difference to UWIHC. Deacons have won three and lost three for nine points. Bringing up the last four positions are Deacons (9 points), All Stars (5 points) Blackbirds (2 points) and Barbados Defence Force (0 points).

The BDF have been the punching bags so far in the tournament losing all six of their matches, including an embarrassing 12-0 defeat at the hands of Deacons earlier in the week. All the teams have so far played six matches.

Live UP’s Akeem Rudder with nine golas, UWIHC’s Kris Holder with 7 †and Che Warner, 5, have been among the best marksmen in the competition. Deacon’s Keron Taylor feasted on the BDF in their last encounter, netting five goals in the match.

In women’s action, Hockey Freekz lead the table with 7 points after three games, with two wins and one draw.†Combermere School Old Scholars have a similar record for 7 points but with an inferior goal difference to the Freekz. UWIHC are on 4 points, while BB Limerz have 2 points from two drawn games of the three they have played.

Similar to the men, Blackbirds have found the going very tough and have one point after four games.

Patrina Brathwaite of Hockey Freekz has scored 4 goals, while team-mates Ayanna Wilson, Sheena Nicholls and Nicole Brathwaite, †and CSOS’ Katrina Downes and Venessa Chewitt all have 2 goals.

Five teams are involved in women’s action. The games continue over the weekend. (WG)††
