Hat-trick hero Jafari Maxwell came up big for Lester Vaughan today as they secured their second victory in the Coca Cola-sponsored Barbados Secondary Schools’ Under-16 Tournament.

This time the St. Thomas school defeated Frederick G. Smith in a 3-2 thriller at the latter’s Trents, St. James school grounds.

Maxwell opened his account in the 12th minute when he slotted home after a brilliant build-up which was almost unimpeded by the somewhat flat-footed home team defence.

Although the visitors did their utmost to press the advantage in the first half, they were continuously let down by their build-up in the attacking third as there were very few shots on goal.

However the pep talk from coach Adrian Mapp seemed to have given the team a renewed purpose going forward and it took only two minutes into the second half for Maxwell to find the nets with clinical precision after receiving a fantastic through ball which dissected the Frederick G. Smith’s defence.

However the joy was short-lived as Frederick G. Smith came storming back when Zidane French capitalised on an almost unforgiveable defensive blunder for an easy tap in.

With the deficit cut in half, Lester Vaughan realised they could no longer sit on their laurels and were rewarded for their efforts in the 42nd minute, courtesy of an excellent left-footed shot from no other than Maxwell to complete his hat-trick.

Akeem Welch scored Frederick G. Smith’s second goal just ten minutes before the full time whistle, thanks to a free kick just outside the 18-yard box, which curled into the left “V’.††
