Sandiford-Garner: Benn the man for St. Peter
Democratic Labour Party candidates are backing St. Peter colleague, Haynesley Benn, all the way.
One such person last night was the candidate for St. Andrew, Irene Sandiford-Garner. She was one of the DLP members who attended the open-air meeting in Mile-and-a-Quarter in St. Peter to endorse the man.
Sandiford-Garner told the moderate sized crowd they had nothing to lose by giving their vote to Benn, but everything to gain. She said she believed Owen was not able to do the job.
“He cannot do the job. Haynesley Benn is the man you have to give the chance to. Haynesley Benn is the man who has shown you good faith for a very long time. Haynesley Benn has invested his personal finances to serve you, the people of St. Peter.
“Haynesley Benn has not told you that being a Member of Parliament is too hard for him — Owen Arthur told you being an Opposition member was too hard for him.
“I do believe that if Haynesley has shown you good faith you need to show back Haynesley the same good faith by giving him the chance, giving Haynesley the chance to represent you. He has worked for it, he is a generous man and he is a sincere man and he has proven himself time and time again.
“Haynesley is the man for St. Peter; Owen does not deserve one more day in the House of Assembly. He has not earned it. If we are going to change the face of politics in Barbados we have to have people like Haynesley Benn in the House of Assembly…, decent straight forward, honest, ethical, sober leaders in the House of Assembly in Barbados,” she said.
