Growing interest in adventure camp
Already, Caribbean neighbours have started to show interest in the annual Caribbean Award Sub-Regional Council’s Adventurous Journey camp.
It is set to be held in Barbados from August 2 to 18, 2013. Hosting the camp will form part of the 50th anniversary celebrations for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Barbados.
Activities to mark the anniversary will last throughout the year and will focus on the theme Fifty years – Challenging Youth in Every Way. The award programme is open to all people aged 14 to 24 and gives the chance to gain bronze, silver and gold awards.
When Barbados welcomes the region to the camp later this year close to 200 attendees are expected. Journey to A Greener Barbados is the code name for the camp as it will focus on promoting green living amongst the youth.
Taking part in the camp provides the opportunity to take away real skills in environmental conservation and develop regional friendships. Since the camp coincides with the climax of the Crop-Over Festival regional participants will enjoy the some of the islands culture before embarking on a five-day hiking expedition.
In preparation for the camp, all interested participants are invited to a meeting at The St. Michael School on Saturday February 9, starting at 9:30 a.m., to meet some of the staff and learn about registration.
