A massive crowd
Every available space became a vantage point last Saturday, when the Barbados Labour Party hosted the Big Up Yuhself mass rally in Haggatt Hall, St. Michael.
The Standard car park was where the party chose to pitch a massive tent that would serve for a long line of entertainers and the introduction of 30 speakers between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m.
While the massive tent covered the western side of the highway and attracted crowds in their thousands, on the eastern side Sky Mall also became a gathering point for almost picnic- and family-like gatherings.
Grassy knolls, the back of open trucks, the caps of trucks, the hoods of vehicles, chairs, walls, just about anywhere that two feet could stand or could support a behind or chair was used by the massive crowd to take in the activities.
The music whipped the crowd into a partying frenzy, as the speeches allowed supporters to cheer on their favourite representative or candidate. As was expected there was a mass of red on either side of the highway that at points forced traffic to a crawl, some motorists beeping their support even if they could not join in the activities. (LB)
