Tremaine Smith, Akayla Morris and Shamar Barker were in record-breaking form at The Lodge School Inter-House Sports at Society, St. John today.
On a day that saw Codrington “Yellow” House tally 996.5 points and thwart Laborde “Red” House’s attempt at a hat-trick of victories, Morris, 12, in her first year at The Lodge School, registered wins in the 100m, 200m, 400m and long jump to provide critical points for her house. Her time of 13.43 in the 100m erased the previous best of 13.60, while her 200m run of 28.4 seconds erased the previous record of 28.60. She also leapt a distance of 4.71. Laborde finished with 969.3 points.
Smith of Gooding “Green” House, and competing in Division 4, smashed three records. He took three seconds off the old 400m record when he came in first in 56.35 seconds and ran 24.34 seconds in the 200m to erase the old mark of 25.02 seconds. And in the 100m the budding star ran 12 seconds flat, to erase the previous mark of 12.03 seconds. Gooding came third among the houses with 897.5 points, with Emtage “Purple” House finishing fourth on 795.3 points and Wedderburn “Blue” House taking fifth position with 716.3 points.
Barker of Codrington House set a new record in the high jump when he soared over the bar at 1.42, bettering the old mark of 1.40. Barker competed among the Division 5 boys.
Another outstanding athlete today was Akeem McCollin of Laborde House. He scored wins in the 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump and high jump to cop the junior victor ludorum title with 77 points. The senior title went to Tyrel Barnes of Gooding House who tallied 91 points. Barnes won the high jump, 800m and 1 500m, while placing second in the triple jump, long jump, 200m, 400m and shot put.
The senior victrix ludorum was Codrington House’s Sade Sargeant with 65 points from second place finishes in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m and 1 500m. The junior title went to Shana Jones of Laborde with 72 points. She won the 800m, 1 500m, javelin, as well as second places in the 200m and 400m.††
