Pitch Perfect, a four-member team comprising Lynn DeCambra-Mcleod, Angela Simpson, Jacqui McDermott and Monica Morrow, emerged winners when the inaugural Ladies New Year Scramble came off on Sunday at the† Barbados Golf Club at Durants.

Their score of 70 carried them to first prize, ahead of Sweet† Spots who shot 73 for second place.†Sweet Spots included† Julia Stephenson, Claire Boucher, Alison Rimple and Lois Wharram. Stephenson, an experienced Barbados player, also won the prize for longest drive while Penny Rattle won closest to the pin.

Forty players, mainly beginner female golfers, contested the†18-hole tournament which was designed for fun and to encourage more women to get involved in the sport.†Reina Hinds, an executive with Virgin Atlantic airline and a†newcomer to the sport, praised the concept of the tournament as one that was long overdue for Barbados.

“It was really good for us who are new to golf to play alongside seasoned golfers. It was motivational, enjoyable and a load of fun,” she said.

Hinds was a member of the Green Aces team which also included† BGC General Manager, Betty-June Leacock, organiser Harriet Linton and Colleen Rossner.

The tournament was supported by Diamonds International, Waves Spa and Resort and Nineteen On The Green restaurant and Leacock described the scramble as a great success and disclosed that the BGC intended to make it an annual event. (BB)
