Ready to represent!
Democratic Labour Party first time candidate, Senator Verla De Peiza, is ready to give the people of Christ Church West representation she says has been lacking.
The attorney-at-law said outgoing Member of Parliament, the Barbados Labour Party’s Dr. William Duguid had deserted constituents and she was offering herself as a committed representative.
“What became very apparent to me as I walked Christ Church West in the last 15 to 18 months is that having someone sitting in the House of Assembly is not the same thing as having representation,” she said last night at the official opening of her constituency office at Fordes Road, Christ Church.
“I suppose it is a matter of motive for when people are at the centre of what you do it doesn’t matter which side of the hall you sit on, you work your hardest to do your best for your people,” De Peiza added.
“Tonight I offer myself to the people of Christ Church West absolutely committed… I pledge my commitment to this constituency to work my hardest.”
She also promised “to conduct myself in a way that you would never be ashamed of me”. “It is time that those of us who hold ourselves out for public service also hold the standards high,” De Peiza added.
The candidate said in addition to being her constituency office, the facility would be a resource centre for constituents, providing access to computers and reading material. (SC)
