UK top model show to be filmed in Bim
Barbadians will soon get the opportunity to witness the “live” filming of an international top model show that could result in a major boost to this country’s crucial tourism industry.
Vice-President of the Barbados Tourism Authority’s UK Office, Petra Roach, told Barbados TODAY in an exclusive interview via telephone from her London office this afternoon, that they were now working on leveraging the filming of Britain’s Next Top Model series show, a portion of which will be done in the Caribbean.
“Four episodes will be filmed in Barbados,” Roach revealed.
She disclosed that male super model and actor, Tyson Beckford, would be among the celebrity judges coming to Barbados to help select the top model.
Even as America’s Next Top Model television series had earlier received world wide viewership for that country, tourism officials believe the shooting of a similar project in Barbados, should provide this island with global exposure as a leisure destination of choice.
Roach said this was just one of the many initiatives the UK office was busy working on for the benefit of Barbados.
“Loads of new destinations are on stream and even though the consolidation of airlines is causing additional challenges, this is where we have to be more creative. We are working hard on behalf of Barbados, even though things here are very, very tough,” the BTA executive affirmed.
Roach also told this newspaper that for the third year, the BTA would be staging its Football Legends tournament at Kensington Oval on June 7 and 8, when Barbados would host some of the biggest stars who play soccer in England. (EJ)
