Smith shines in T20 warm-up match

PORT OF SPAIN – A match-winning performance from Barbados captain Dwayne Smith led them to a commanding 77-run win over Trinidad and Tobago’s ‘B’ team in a practice match last night.

Smith slammed an unbeaten 71 as Barbados reached 144 for three off their 20 overs while the Trinidadians crashed to 78 all out in 19 overs.

The Barbadian skipper faced 66 balls hitting seven fours and one six and was supported by the hard-hitting Shamarh Brooks with 35 off 29 balls including three sixes.

Justin Guillen gave T&T ‘B’ a flying start smashing 23 runs from 17 balls with one four and a six and Vikash Mohan with 18 off 20 balls was the only other batsman to get into double figures.

Wickets fell regularly as Smith returned to be the chief destroyer of T&T ‘B’ with three for three off three overs, while Suileman Benn grabbed two for 12, Ryan Hinds two for 20 and Javon Searles two for 18.

Barbados were due to play the Windwards in their second warm-up match tonight.
