Soccer Academy going to US
The Barbados Soccer Academy has secured a special invitation to participate in a prestigious international tournament in the United States of America next year.
This came about through a good performance during the visit of a 23-member squad from the academy to Houston Dynamo MLS club in April this year.
The BSA’s three teams will consist of the under-19, 17, and 15, and each age group will be competing in the platinum group or the most competitive bracket in each respective age group.†
Jabez “Jack” Bovell, chief executive officer of the BSA, said that 60 Barbadian players would be given the opportunity to display their skills against some of the top clubs in the world. †
†Some of the teams that are also invited are Birmingham City FC, and West Ham United FC of England, Club Bolivar of Bolivia, Monterrey Rayados and Tigres UANL of Mexico, AZ Alkmaar of Holland, AGOVV Apeldorn and CD Nacional of Portugal and Ross County of the Scotland and MLS youth teams from the USA.
Twenty players from each age group mentioned will be placed in another arm of the BSA called the Soccer College of Excellence to be specially prepared for the task in July 2013.
In addition, four BSA players will be traveling to the USA to attend college showcases and camps in the states of New York, Virginia and Missouri.
Currently the BSA Under-15, and Under-17 youth teams are
preparing to defend their three championship titles in each division
of the Barbados Football Association’s youth tournaments over the last two years, while the under 13 team has to defend its four consecutive titles since 2009.
