Beautifying Barbados

parks and gardens winners awarded

If the awards segment of the Spirit of the Nation Show was any indication, the Community Mini-parks and Gardens competition is very much still alive.

At a press briefing last month, head of the Community Independence Secretariat, Curtis Gibbons, had noted that they were seeing quite a number of gardens being entered for the competition, though the parks were not as numerous as before.

Part of the challenge, he had said, was the necessary permissions for the community park. It was a matter, he added that they were working on to see a revival of parks in every parish entering the competition.

As for the gardens, several traditional, kitchen and contemporary gardens were entered this year and the competition so stiff that there were joint winners for some of the prizes.
