New directors appointed

CIBC FirstCaribbean has made two appointments within its Wealth Management senior leadership team. Marcia Cyrus has been confirmed as the new Director of International Banking and Kriss Marcus has been appointed Director of Investment Management.

Cyrus, a Barbadian who joined CIBC FirstCaribbean in 2007, has most recently performed the role of head of international banking for the bank’s Barbados Wealth Management operations.

Prior to that, she gained significant experience within the international banking sector, with a focus on investment management, providing investment and banking solutions to large captives and other international business structures.

An Economics and Management graduate of UWI, Marcia is also a Certified General Accountant and has completed the Canadian securities course. She is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Investments and Wealth Management.

Managing Director of Wealth Management for CIBC FirstCaribbean, Mark Young, said: “Marcia takes on the role at a very interesting time for International Banking as, in addition to managing the daily business in our six International Banking Centres, she will be leading the implementation of our new strategy and a number of initiatives we have planned to deliver growth in this area in the years 2013 to 2015.”

Marcus, a Trinidadian and also a UWI graduate, joins CIBC FirstCaribbean from his most recent position as head of Investment Management Services at Unit Trust Corporation, where he had overall responsibility for the investment performance and growth in Assets Under Management of that institution’s ten mutual funds offered to the public. These mutual funds represent the highest valued group of funds currently in the Trinidadian market.

He has a proven track record of developing the strategic vision, and managing the tactical execution of that vision, to achieve revenue earning goals. In previous roles Marcus has worked for Sagicor Asset Management in a syndication, bond trading and treasury role and also for RBTT Merchant Bank (now RBC) in syndication and distribution roles.

Young noted: “Kriss’ role is new to the organisation and a critical part of the Wealth Management team’s plans to deliver the platforms, products and people we need to allow us to effectively compete for the investment business of retail, corporate, institutional and wealth clients, whether they are regional domestic clients or international clients.”

Cyrus will remain based at CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Warrens Head Office in Barbados and Marcus will be based in Port of Spain.
